Painting

Students studying in the area of painting acquire knowledge within fine arts with particular regard to specific problems of the discipline and history of art. Graduates are prepared for using traditional techniques and modern means of artistic media as well as they obtain a comprehensive education - necessary theoretical and practical knowledge - within their artistic discipline, ensuring them the preparation for independent creative work and effective practicing of the profession. The studies prepare students for executing work within easel painting and similar techniques. Graduates as conscious participants of modern culture will combine humanistic knowledge with artistic experience by their own activities, a reflective attitude towards various manifestations and forms of modern culture as well as the analysis of phenomena in the area of art, recognizing their historical and modern aspects. The ability to speak  creatively on painting and visual arts, the knowledge and  understanding of modern media and their functions as well as their importance for art, culture and society, consist of the qualifications of the artist-painter. Education and professional preparation allow the graduates to seek employment in the areas of culture, art and  education.

Studies

Full-time long-cycle Master studies - 10 semesters

Qualification procedure

Stage I
Review and the evaluation of candidates' works - candidates show their portfolios comprising painting and drawing works, executed in any techniques, in the number of up to 25 items (e.g. 10 painting works + 15 drawing works) and painting and drawing sketches as well as, in addition, documentation of other artistic activities to the Faculty Recruitment Commission.
Stage II
Practical exam includes:

- life painting study (still life) - the candidate executes 1 work of longer side up to 1 m, and 1 coloured sketch in the A3 format
- painting composition on a prescribed topic - the candidate executes a work on a painting support of longer side up to 1 m, working In any technique, i.e. oil, acrylic, distemper, gouache or water colour
- 2 life drawing studies (including a figure study) - the candidate executes works in B2 (70x50 cm) format

Stage III
Examination in theory - the candidate is required to prove his/her ability to analyze a painting work of art and the knowledge of problems related to culture, art and history with reference to the chosen area of study (painting).

Works presented by the candidate to the Recruitment Commission should have a legible signature and date of their execution.


Candidates bring their own materials for the practical examination: 2 primed painting supports of the length up to 1 m, paints, brushes, a palette, crayons, a rubber, charcoal, a sheet of cardboard of paper, a hammer, nails and two-side adhesive tape for arranging the exhibition.

 

Works executed during the entrance examination are documents of the examination procedure and as such they are not subject to return.

Scoring of the entrance examination

Stage I
Candidate may be granted:

0 - 15 points (obtaining of at least 3 points is a precondition for admission to the successive stage)

Stage II
Candidate may be granted:
0 - 114 points (obtaining of at least 80 points is a precondition for admission to the successive stage)

painting: 0 - 46 points
composition: 0 - 32 points
drawing: 0 - 36 points
Stage III
Candidate may be granted:
0 - 21 points (obtaining at least 7 points is a precondition for passing the exam in theory)

Total scoring
150 points (at least 90 points)

Notes on scoring

According to the rules of the competition a successive group of candidates who have not obtained the required minimum of points are excluded. Candidates admitted to all three stages who have obtained the appropriate number of points for each required task of the entrance examination  and have been successively placed on the ranking list within the admission limit, shall be admitted to studies.

The examination includes the presentation of candidates' own artistic works (not less than 20), related with the chosen area of study, and possibly, documentation of other artistic works and the analysis of those works.

A person who has a Bachelor degree of the first cycle studies in fine arts or design (painting, graphic arts, ceramics, architecture, art education, plastic design and interior design).
