Artist-in-residence programs and other residency opportunities allow artists to stay and work elsewhere
'for art's sake'. They offer conditions that are conducive to creativity and they provide for working facilities,
ready to be used by individual artists.

Of course, no artist-in-residence program is the same. Each program or guest studio - large or small,
established or experimental - has its own background and atmosphere. Working periods differ enormously,
from two weeks to six months or sometimes even a year. Some residential arts centers specialise in one
discipline, others stimulate a great number of disciplines. There are also a lot of differences in financial
resources, housing and studio facilities, application procedures, selection procedures, coaching and
exhibiting.

Wouldn't it be helpful to have some additional guidance to find your way through the endless list of 'artistin-
residence' opportunities available online? During this information session, you will be offered several
tools that helps you to get a more clear and in-depth vision of 'how to become an artist-in-residence'.
Furthermore, these informal meetings will give you the possibility to ask all your questions and discuss
your ideas and plans with Yeb Wiersma, who has worked for the Trans Artists' Education Team since 2002.
November 16-19th 2009

Yeb Wiersma graduated in 2001 at the Academy for Visual Arts 'Gerrit Rietveld' in Amsterdam
and continued her studies at the Cooper Union Arts Academy in NYC, USA. Since her return to
The Netherlands she runs her own artist' practice and has been granted with several artist-in-residence
programs all around the world.

Trans Artists is a knowledge centre on artist-in-residence opportunities. Here you can find all about facts,
use and value of international artist-in-residence programs as well as other opportunities for artists to stay
and work elsewhere 'for art's sake'.

'The Trans Artists Crew has inspired our students again and again with their elaborate knowledge of
international guest studios and other interesting opportunities for artists to broaden their horizon abroad.
Artists-in-residences are much more than just an alternative continuation of studies, the residence is an
enormous mind opener of your own safe frame of reference and opens new ways and networks.' - Krien

Clevis - coordinator fine arts, Academy of Maastricht.

An artist-in-residence program offers you the opportunity to be away
from daily worries and allows you to dive freely into your art!
