Contest for logo of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow

CONTEST RULES


  1. Organizer

Rector of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts. Jana Matejki w Krakowie is the organizer of the contest.

  1. Subject

The subject of the contest is a design the of the logo for the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow alongside with the system of characters for various Faculties of the Academy.

  1. Objective

The objective of the contest is to get the project, which will become the mark identifying the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Poland and abroad as well as characters identifying various Faculties of the Academy. The logo of the Academy and the logos of the faculties shall constitute a system.

4. Participants

The competition is open to students, doctoral students, graduates and teachers - including the retired ones- of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow.

  1. Project Scope

The project covers a logo for the ASP in the following versions:

  • graphic element + full Polish name of the Academy
  • graphic element + full English name of the Academy
  • the graphic element itself,
  • system of characters for the various Faculties of the Academy,
  • application examples of the logo on letterhead, a business card and an envelope.
  1. The method of presentation and preparation of a competition project

The project should be presented vertically on A3 charts. The charts shall be pasted on a rigid substrate in the same format. Subsequent charts should include:

  • Chart 1
  • logo in the colour version (located in box size 15x15 cm
    and reduced to 2x2 cm) with full Polish version of the name of the Academy: Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie and the date of establishment of the Academy - 1818, with the parameters of colours in CMYK and PANTONE systems and giving the name and variations of a typeface;
  • Chart 2
  • logo in the colour version (located in box size 15x15 cm and reduced to 2x2 cm) with the English version of the full name of the Academy: Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and the date of the establishment of the Academy - 1818;
  • Chart 3
  • logo in the colour version (located in box size 15x15 cm reduced to 2x2 cm) without an inscription, unless the project provides such a version;
  • Chart 4
  • a logo in an achromatic version (located in a box size 15x15 cm and reduced to 2x2 cm) - in the language of your choice;
  • Chart 5
  • presentation of a system of characters for each Faculty of the Academy (6 characters, each located in a box measuring 7x7 cm, and reduced to the box size 2x2 cm): Faculty of Painting, Faculty of Sculpture, Faculty of Graphic Arts, Faculty of Interior Design, Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works Arts, Faculty of Industrial Design;
  • Chart 6
  • Application examples of the logo in the basic version (in colour, with the full name of the Academy in Polish and the date of establishment), A4 letterhead, business card 50x90 mm ; and on envelope DL;
  • letterhead should contain: address - pl.   • Personal Rector's letterhead should include: - pl. Matejki 13, 31 - 157 Kraków, 31 - 157 Krakow, telephone number: +48 12 422 24 50, fax No: +48 12 422 65 66 and email address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and position, title, name and family name of the Rector;
  • personalized business card (vertical or horizontal, in Polish and English versions) should contain: title, name, position, name of the faculty or organizational unit, mailing address, telephone No, fax No, email, mobile phone (optional) with the names and variants of a typeface used for the composition of texts;

Each participant may submit up to three projects for the competition.

Each project should be submitted in a separate envelope, including presentation charts. The charts shall be marked on the back, in the upper right corner by the 6-digit symbol.
The charts must be accompanied by a sealed envelope marked with the same symbol, containing the personal details and details of the participant and repeated 6-digit symbol. Each project must be accompanied by a CD, marked with the same symbol and the project should be saved in the form of PDF files, CMYK, 300 dpi. The inscription: "Competition for the logo of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków." shall be marked on the consignment.

  1. Deadline

Competition entries must be delivered in person or sent by mail to the Organiser
within the deadline from 13 to 31 December, 2010.

  1. Jury

The members of the competition jury will be practicing graphic designers and visual communication designers - lecturers of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in the number of four individuals and a teacher from another Academy of Fine Arts, invited by the Organizer:

  • Prof. Adam Wsiołkowski, Rector - Organizer
  • Prof. Ryszard Otręba, a retired educator, Faculty of Graphic Arts
  • Prof. Jan Nuckowski, Faculty of Industrial Design
  • Assist. Prof. Władysław Targosz, Faculty of Graphic Arts
  • Prof. Karol Śliwka, a designer, Warsaw

 

  1. Announcement of results

Jury debates will take place no later than three weeks after the closing of the competition. The results will be announced on January 24, 2011.

The winner and the person awarded will be informed of the results by telephone. The jury's verdict will be published on the website of the Academy www.asp.krakow.pl

  1. Awards

The prize stake-money in the competition is 8.000,00 PLN. The Rector of the Academy will decide on its division. The Jury will award one main prize and three honourable mentions. The jury reserves itself the right not to award the main prize. The Jury's decision is final and no appeal shall lie from it.

Receiving a prize by the winner is equivalent to the transfer of economic rights to the project in the following fields of use:

  • recording and reproduction of the winning project, i.e.: the manufacturing of copies of a work regardless of the method used, the number and size of circulation,
  • trading of the original or the copies on which work has been recorded, that is, putting into circulation, hiring, lending of the original or copies, public access to the project, distribution, using the project for a different purpose.

Regardless of the prize the winner will sign a separate agreement setting out the conditions for further cooperation between the author of the winning design and the Organizer of the contest, including any modifications to the design and supervision over the implementation of visual identification system for extra remuneration in the amount determined by the parties.

  1. Exhibition

The organizer of the contest envisages organizing an exhibition of winning and selected works, entered in the contest, and publishing a folder accompanying the exhibition. The selection of works which will be presented in post-competition exhibition will be made by the Jury.

  1. Acceptance of the terms of competition

The submission of an entry to the competition is tantamount to acceptance of all provisions of these Regulations and a statement that the projects submitted for the contest are the original works of authors, they do not undermine the rights of third parties, and the consent for processing personal data for a competitive examination and publication of a work in a folder accompanying the exhibition.

  1. Receipt of not awarded works and those which do not participate in the exhibition.

Submitted works will not be returned to participants.

Not awarded works and those not taking part in the exhibition may be picked up at the headquarters of the Organizer starting from 25 January, 2011.
