The 14th edition of the annually held backup_festival is looking for filmmakers and media artists who would like to compete in an international contest for total trophy money to the amount of 2500 Euro.
backup_festival 2012 focuses on the following competitions: backup.award and backup.clip.award.
The deadline for entries in both categories is on February 27th, 2012.
backup.award
backup.award is looking for cinematic works characterized by a creative examination of different ways of expression and various production techniques that reflect and define the boundaries and possibilities of film. The interaction of varying forms of media and methods as well as their influence on narration, production and distribution chains is considered to be the center of this award. Present categorizations must be left behind.
Hybrid forms must be created.
Entries should be completed after January 1st, 2010 and should not exceed a runtime of 15 minutes.
backup.clip.award
backup.clip.award seeks experimental music video clips that create an unusual symbiosis of film and music by using miscellaneous media related production techniques. The artistic examination of the characteristics of music video clips will be awarded. Images must be made audible. Sounds must be made visible.

Entries should be completed after January 1st, 2010 and should not exceed a runtime of 7 minutes. In order to compete, all video clips have to be authorized. Patent rights and the rights of use must be obtained by the competitor.
The call for entries takes place internationally at art schools, art academies, media and design schools, universities and via internet at www.backup-festival.de.
By addressing those schools and universities, backup stands in contrast to established film festival competitions addressed exclusively to film schools. In order to compete at the backup_festival 2012, prospective participants need to visit www.backup-festival.de to send in the required documents to the festival office.
Entries must be submitted before the deadline on February 27th, 2012. An entry includes the filled in application form, a screening copy (preferably as a DVD), filmstills, a list of the dialogues as well as a synopsis and the director´s bio- and filmography.
An in each case independent jury composed of film and TV makers, producers, designers, but also media theorists will award the most outstanding entries.
