Online recruitment – setting up an account
The online recruitment system registers candidates for:
– long-cycle master’s studies, full-time first- and second-cycle studies from 22 May until 5 June 2019
– for part-time first- and second-cycle studies from 1 July until 14 July 2019
Registered candidates can apply for admission to only one full-time program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, since all entrance exams are held on the same day.
A personal account gives candidates access to an inbox (in the upper left-hand corner), to which Secretaries of Faculty Recruitment Committees will send detailed information concerning the time and venue of individual exam stages.
Entrance exam fee
Candidates will find bank transfer details (fee, account number, title) under their personal account on the online recruitment website.
Submission of documents to the dean’s office
The faculties mention other requirements to be satisfied by the applicants for second-cycle studies, e.g. diploma in a specific domain of science or art as well as disciplines which are parts of thereof, they also mention the related area of study out of artistic disciplines – Fine Arts, design, and conservation and restoration of works of art;
Registered candidates submit Xerox copies of documents authenticated by their secondary school or their previous university, the office issuing the document, a notary office or the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Xerox copies may be authenticated by the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków only on the condition that original documents are presented for review. Document copies will not be returned.

The entrance exam will vary depending on the chosen course, level and form of study.
In the academic year of 2019/2020, the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków opens recruitment for new students at:
The Faculty of Painting:
Faculty of Sculpture: sculpture (long-cycle master’s studies)
Faculty of Graphic Arts: graphic arts (full-time long-cycle master’s studies)
Faculty of Interior Design:
Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art: conservation and restoration of works of art, specialisations: conservation and restoration of painting, conservation and restoration of sculpture (long-cycle master’s studies)
Faculty of Industrial Design: design (full-time first-cycle studies, full-time second-cycle studies)
Faculty of Intermedia: intermedia (full-time first-cycle studies, full-time second-cycle studies)
In order to pass the entrance exam, candidates need to complete all exam stages/tasks with a minimum required score and fall within the admission limit on the ranking list. The ranking is determined by the total score obtained from all the stages/tasks of the entrance exam.
The place to work and the basic materials needed for art/design exam tasks are provided by the relevant Faculty. Tools and materials for individual work, as listed in separate annexes to the recruitment resolution, are supplied by the candidate.
Artwork created during the entrance exam constitutes a document of the examination process – it shall be handled in accordance with relevant rules specified by Faculty Recruitment Committees.
Candidates with certified disabilities are subject to the same recruitment processes as all other candidates applying for a given course, level and form of study. Such candidates should submit a document certifying the type and degree of disability to the dean’s office before the end of the online registration process. The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków shall attempt to make allowances for the special needs of candidates with disabilities.
Entrance exam results
full-time studies: 10 July 2019
part-time studies: 22 July 2019
Candidates who pass the entrance exam and fall within the admission limit are obliged to confirm their readiness to start the course, pick up a referral for a medical check-up, and submit all the required documents to the dean’s office :
full-time studies: before 24 July 2019
part-time studies: before 30 August 2019
Candidates who pass the entrance exam but do not fall within the admission limit may apply for admission to a part-time program at the same department.
In order to do so, they must sign up for the part-time program using the online registration system, re-submit all the required documents (there is no need to pay the examination fee again), and a copy of the decision of the Faculty Recruitment Committee in Kraków that justifies the rejection of the candidate with the fact that his/ her score is lower than that of the last person who falls within the admission limit.
The candidate who meets the above-mentioned conditions shall be admitted to the part-time program and receive an admission decision.
In the event that there are not enough candidates to fill the admission limit for the part-time program, the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków reserves the right not to launch the course.
Candidates who do not pass the entrance exam for full-time studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków may enter the recruitment process for a corresponding part-time program (these candidates must pay the examination fee).
Foreign student enrolment:
The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków offers English-taught courses in interior architecture (part-time first- and second-cycle studies) and interior architecture (part-time studies, ADT) at the Faculty of Interior Design (part-time first- and second-cycle studies). All other courses are taught in Polish.

Before submitting their documents to the Dean’s Office, foreigners are required to present certificates that validate their level of education at the Division of Education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (plac Matejki 13, rooms: 117, 118).
Consultations for candidates
We encourage all candidates to take advantage of available consultations with our lecturers, organized by most faculties at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Consultations are not mandatory and do not serve as a course of preparation for the entrance exam. During each session, candidates present their artwork and receive methodological and technical instructions to guide their further work.
