No. 27/2025 The Frontiers of Design
The issue’s theme addresses issues that stand in opposition to the market-driven understanding of design. Terms such as “critical design,” “speculative design,” “antagonistic design,” “anti-design,” “design fictions,” and “design fiction” describe diverse approaches that respond to overproduction and overconsumption and their consequences—environmental devastation and adverse social changes. These practices function not only as a critique of the existing order but also as tools that stimulate the imagination, propose alternative ways of thinking, and serve as a medium for reflection on the role of design in the contemporary world.
