The set design program prepares students for careers in theater, film, and television.

A practical consequence of the fact that the set design program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków is housed within the Department of Painting is that the education of future set designers is based on the fundamentals of painting and drawing. We believe that sensitivity to color, compositional skills, and precision in drawing are essential elements of a comprehensive preparation for creative work as a set designer.

Students learn about the workings of theater and film. They acquire essential knowledge of art history, theater, film, and the broader field of material culture; they become familiar with the process of creating a set design, learning the principles of perspective and model-building. Through internships in theater and film, they gain insight into the realities of their chosen profession.
