Faculty of Graphic Arts
The Faculty of Graphic Arts offers training in graphic arts, graphic design, drawing, intermedia, photography, and animation.
The tradition of the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Kraków has been to combine graphic arts and graphic design into a single study program, based on an artistic conviction regarding the unity of art. With the development of specialization and the emergence of new media, one might question whether such a model of instruction can be effective in the long run. However, we believe that in light of the growing problems in our civilization, this type of training has a new mission to fulfill and should serve as the foundation for a comprehensive artistic education, regardless of the means and tools available to the artist (designer or graphic artist). The Faculty of Graphic Arts continues to emphasize this mission, while remaining open to contemporary challenges.
The Faculty is widely known in many countries, where its graduates are widely recognized in various fields of graphic arts. Among them are, for example, Czesław Słania, one of Europe’s most distinguished engravers, and the late Roman Cieślewicz, a distinguished designer. Graduates of the Faculty, including members of its teaching staff, frequently serve as jurors at Polish and international festivals of graphic art, posters, and animated films. Professors at the Faculty also confer academic degrees on faculty members at all art universities in Poland.
