It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the death of

The late Janusz Tarabuła

an outstanding painter, co-founder of the Nowa Huta Group, member of the Second Kraków Group, and one of the most original representatives of material painting in Poland.

He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1950 to 1956, earning his diploma with honors in the studio of Prof. Czesław Rzepiński. From 1982 to 2002, he was affiliated with the Department of Interior Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where he headed the Painting Studio. Previously, from 1974 to 1976, he also lectured at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.

His work, rooted in the postwar experience, was part of the “painting of matter” movement and was distinguished by a profound, reflective dimension and a consistently developed, individual artistic language. He was an active participant in Kraków’s artistic life and was also involved in community and educational activities.
